Crystal Meth Rehab Case Study

No mother would ever wish for her son to be a drug addict but once he has become a hardened drug dependent, he is better off locked up in jail or in a well-guarded drug addiction treatment center. I recently met a mother who openly admitted that she’s relieved that her son is now in a drug rehab.

She described the horrible episode in her family’s life when her son was at his worst peak of Crystal Meth addiction. She said that the drug had transformed her son into a monster she no longer knew. He had become “aggressive, crazy and mean” and he totally lost interest in his personal hygiene. He had stopped showering and no longer brushed his teeth, and he would stay wide awake even at night looking devilishly crazy with dilated eyes.

For her, Crystal Meth is the most horrendous drug in the world because it destroyed her son and damaged her family. She had never thought that she would ever want to see her son arrested, but she was really relieved when the police got her son and locked him up in jail. She said that she was happy at the very least because she knew exactly where her son was when he was in jail and that he was alive. It was all she could hope for. His drug addiction had destroyed him so much that she could only hope to see him alive no matter if he’s behind bars.

She also wasted no time in pulling strings to get her son admitted in a substance abuse treatment center for long term drug treatment. Sure, she was relieved that he remained clean and alive in jail, but he was still not getting the drug rehab treatment he needed to recover from his drug addiction. What he needed was a comprehensive rehab treatment program that would get him in detox rehab and help him get his head together.

Crystal Meth is really a powerful and extremely addicting substance that can lead to severe psychological and physiological dependence. It is a man-made stimulant that is often abused for its euphoric effects. Crystal Meth is also known for its street term “ice” because of its crystal appearance that resembles ice or glass pieces. An odorless and colorless substance, Crystal Meth is smoked, snorted and/or injected by its drug abusers.

The drug is known to cause erratic and violent behaviors among its users, along with mood swings and unpredictability, unusual sleeping behaviors, suppressed appetite, tremors, convulsions, irregular heart rate and increased blood pressure. Many Crystal Meth addicts also experience prolonged anxiety, insomnia and paranoia and even start to have suicidal or homicidal thoughts.

Signs of chronic dependence on Crystal Meth include psychosis and hallucinations, severe weight loss (“he looked like a walking skeleton,” as the mother described her son when he was at his worst stage of Crystal Meth addiction), tooth decay and cracked teeth, and body sores caused by the users’ constant picking at their skin (probably due to the abnormal skin sensation that makes them feel as if bugs are crawling on their skin).

Prolong use of Crystal Meth can cause long term effects such as brain damage that can lead to stroke, coma or even death. And this is why the mother I talked to is happy that there’s hope for her son to be saved now that he will be receiving Crystal Meth rehab.
