Hawaii Island Recovery is a dual diagnosis addiction treatment center specializing in the treatment of substance abuse, behavioral addictions, and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Behavioral addictions include but are not limited to; gambling, sex, eating disorders, and pornography. Because the majority of people struggling with an addiction also have a co-occurring mental health condition,
Hawaii Island Recovery provides progressive treatment for:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Hawaii Island Recovery also offers a comprehensive pain management program specifically for those who are addicted to prescription pain medication as a result of chronic pain.
Addiction rarely occurs in the absence of a co-occurring mental health or physical condition. Therefore, effective addiction treatment must address the underlying pain the addiction has been masking. The most common co-morbid psychological disorders that accompany addiction include Depression, Anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Physical pain resulting from injury, surgery or a chronic condition may also underlie addiction, most often to prescription medication.
Hawaii Island Recovery provides intensive group and individual therapy and utilizes the most effective, evidence-based treatments available to treat addiction and co-occurring conditions. Our therapists utilize
Health Realization and psychodynamic techniques to effectuate a deeper understanding of why you use and provide you with the insight and tools you need to change self-destructive patterns of behavior, thinking and feeling.
|Because unresolved trauma is often an antecedent to addiction and mental health disorders, Hawaii Island Recovery offers EMDR in conjunction with CBT to mitigate the impact of past traumatic events on present day functioning. Traumatic events, whether recalled or not, have the capacity to adversely affect every aspect of a person’s functioning and contribute to chronic psychological and physical problems. If not effectively processed, trauma may continue to manifest as addiction and mental and/ or physical illness.||Trauma takes many forms. Attachment and developmental trauma may result from early childhood neglect or abuse. Often children raised in chaotic environments with unstable caregivers will carry the imprint of this trauma into adulthood. Other types of events that may result in trauma include physical, emotional or sexual abuse, rape, physical assault, accidents, injury or illness, and war. Witnessing a traumatic event can be equal to experiencing it for some people.|
Our therapists will take a comprehensive history to assess for past trauma and when indicated, will develop a treatment plan to effectively reduce or eliminate the associated symptomology.
